Southern Poverty Law Center is no friends of conservatives. Yet I found their recent findings disturbing: Young male Democrat approves of political assassination above any other demographics such as Republican men and women.
There’s a lot of discussion on the news associating violence with conservatives. But I’m disturbed that some of these news sources can selectively cite sources to fit a narrative while omitting key details like what I just stated of the finding from SPLC. And there’s news sources that omit the fact that in general people are willing to approve of political violence than before among the younger generation, and statistically its not exclusively a conservative phenomenon.
From a April 2022 finding that was published on June 2022 we learn that “44 percent of Young male Democrat approves of political assassination.” By younger the study looks at those 50 years and younger.
Here’s the chart from SPLC:
From this one can see clearly the demographic that has the highest percent approve of political assassination is young Democratic men. Now to be fair the numbers are disturbing in general for those who are younger no matter the political persuasion. But to see male Democrats lead in approving assassination that might come as a surprise to many as it doesn’t fit the mainstream narrative that is gas-lighting conservatives.
Yet with such a stunning statistical finding how did the SPLC reported this? The original article can be found here, as archived by Wayback Machine (just in case they remove it). The title is “SPLC POLL FINDS SUBSTANTIAL SUPPORT FOR ‘GREAT REPLACEMENT’ THEORY AND OTHER HARD-RIGHT IDEAS.” I thought that is weird that they would highlight the title to be focus on the Right; also its weird that the focus is on a political theory rather the bigger new story of who approve of direct political violence as opposed to indirect-slippery slope discussions.
Of all the survey questions the one that is most scary is about assassination. The next scary question is the use of threat; yet actual approval of assassination which involves people being murdered would be a priority of what should disturb us. And so I think its strange to see what the title from SPLC would be about replacement theory. And then to see that the discussion of opinions of acceptance of political violence at the bottom half of the article rather than the first half and also the space for discussion about the data on opinions of assassination to be disproportionally less than other findings, that really makes me question the SPLC priorities. Or worst, how they are going to spin things.
People in today’s internet world often don’t finish the article they are reading; so things at the bottom can be missed. Why would SPLC put the most interesting finding towards the end?
This finding by SPLC from 2022 isn’t the only one that indicate left wing can be statistically more approving of using political violence than even those who identify as right wing. In 2022 Politico report
“Of Democrats who identify as “very liberal,” 26 percent said there would be “a great deal” of justification for violence if their candidate loses the presidency compared to 7 percent of those identifying as simply “liberal.” Of Republicans who identify as “very conservative,” 16 percent said they believe there would be “a great deal” of justification for violence”

I think the best presentation of the data is to say younger generations believe in approving political violence more than older generations of Americans. And it isn’t just Conservative but at times the Left and Democrats can be higher.
2020 should teach us political violence is not just one side having a monopoly. Another way to look at the statistics is to ask of all the actual political violence committed in 2020, who perpetuated them more? Are there more participants for the left or the right? And even probing even more its fair to ask the question of which side enable the violence with heroism, or policies that let those who commit these violence to get away from facing responsibilities?
I do think believing in the Biblical Gospel has a tampering force; for Christians there’s more to life than this side of eternity. There’s also the importance to share the Gospel. Yet that doesn’t mean there’s no place to defend life and self-defense in the face of evil. Still with a God who demonstrate love by dying for sinners Christians have an obligation to even love their enemies. Jesus even died on the cross for us who were once His enemies but not place our trust in Him as Lord and Savior. On the other side when people believe there is no God, people often substitute idols that are functional gods. And that can opens the door for people to hold to the pagan doctrine of regeneration and creation through chaos; after all that’s their metaphysical foundations for creation and origin. Furthermore our understanding of human origin shapes one’s theory of the basis of ethics. See my post Wicked is the Doctrine of Regeneration through Chaos.
How we need to preach the Gospel in these times.
Great article. Thanks for the insight. This is it: “How we need to preach the Gospel in these times.”

Welcome to the Progressive/Socialist dem party. Where they now believe it’s ok to crush and destroy their “enemies” who disagree with them. I blame the Clintons who brought this crap into the Dem party in the early 90s.
Thanks for the input/comment. Wow how did you find this post Barabbas?
I think i follow your blog
Perspective is always an issue with such reporting. Thanks for sharing.
Yes these are issues with such reporting, something we need to think critically about when we hear statistics being given! Blessings to you
It should not surprise us that a culture loosed like a boat from it’s moral moorings will drift with the currents, fall over the cliff and crash. It is in the dark that predators stalk closer and closer to those who have fallen asleep instead of tending fire for the world to see it’s warming light. We then awake too late and say “what happened?” (my wilderness camping analogy)
That’s an appropriate analogy that describe the age and what’s going on. Thank you
Looks like we need to hold up the standard of Christ and venerate non-violent heroes like Martin Luther King, Junior.
I am concern that the woke movement thinks silence is violence and real violence is a justified way of being heard when the media amplified the voice of their cause…what a crazy time we are living it, isn’t it?

Amen. The Gospel must be preached, indeed!
Amen and that is true in US, the Island and elsewhere!
Disturbing, but good stuff, Slim!
Something that may have also changed is honoring your mother and father, drawing on the wisdom of elders. Older folks have seen more, we can tell you why violence is seldom the answer. So, it’s somewhat normal to be young and foolish, a hothead, but that has often been tempered by the wisdom of the older folks around you. Today we have broken those bonds and dismantled families. We also have some appalling elected leaders who flat out advocate for violence and they have become the new role models. Our culture is definitely in a lot of trouble.
As for left leaning or Dem violence, well shoot, they’ve been the ones throwing all the bottles and setting the fires! The SPLC is so full of stuff and nonsense.
Good comment! With broken families you are right there is the cutting off of wisdom that would counsel against violence. And you are right the SPLC is full of looney lens interpreting the evidence only one way, their narrative…against good input sister, I value your insights!
No surprise here. Thanks for sharing this.
True those who don’t have mainstream media filter won’t be surprised…but I digress!
The culture as a whole is definitely shifting towards violence. The Republican women stat is also very high. We mustn’t get caught up in temporal political hatred. Of course, that doesn’t mean we’re oblivious to the culture, it’s just not our focus.
Yeah the Republican women statistics is very high; I kind of wish the study did a better job of breaking down the demographics such as having it by generations and not just under and over 50; and also further questions with what do individual think is justified violence. Like you said we need to be aware of the culture but also focus on sharing the Gospel. How is the weather today for you all at ROC?
RE: ROC weather
I’m sitting outside under the patio umbrella in 93F heat. I just finished rebutting Broussard, so I need to chill until lights out. How’s your Wednesday shaping up?

Wow! This is very disturbing 😒
As an under 50 conservative female, I saw the numbers of the poll and went to the article for clarification. I didn’t really see any comments addressing how/why 40% of younger women voted that assassination was ok. My first thought was maybe younger women were more inclined to pick up arms if someone was threatening their children/family or perceived their children/family were being harmed. I am truly surprised by this statistic; however, I am not surprised by the young dem men statistic.
Yeah I wish the study focused more on what people think about political violence more exactly. I imagine the women have more nuances. At the same time these groups often focus on Right wingers when their own finding revealing super concerning statistics on left wing view of violence; and splc seems to not account for the summer of violence from the left. It’s rather bias what it wants to focus on in their writings. Do you ever feel we live in an age where we have more data but we also live in an age where People are more driven by a narrative that goes against the data, and all of that takes place in the same space called the internet and sometimes like the splc article they literally are in the same webpage?? It’s so crazy to me
I agree 100%! The other thing that makes me question this whole study is why is the SPLC not screaming that “young republican women” are the greatest threat to national security?! I do not expect the SPLC to have any nuisance whatsoever. The SPLC is as corrupt as they come. They monetarily capitalize on peoples fear, they promote hatred rather than justice. The SPLC does truly “make hate pay.”
It is a wicked, pagan world for sure. And yes everyday I marvel at how knowledge increases and wisdom decreases. This makes me want to share the Bible even more. The biblical metanarrative is still Good News! As much as the SPLC would love to consider the Bible hate speech, God’s Word will remain and ultimately win in the end.
I know all about the SPLC and their targeting of some Christian groups as “hate groups.”
This is a very interesting and eye-opening post, Pastor Jim. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for reading this. Yes Splc has demonized some legitimate Christian ministry; as always with a biblical view of sin we need to beware that even monitoring groups are staff with sinners with agendas and we need to be careful too of what agendas especially antiChristian ones are being pressed forward. One cannot be discerning and being a Berean enough in this day and age!
You’re welcome, Pastor Jim, and I appreciate your comment. One certainly cannot be too much of a Berean in our day!
That’s sad.
Very sad indeed to see not only the polarization but the approval of violence. Very. That causes me to pray for the Gospel to advance
You cannot trust the left even in other countries too; look at what happen with assassination in Japan last week
Well said.
I appreciate that Maw Maw!!!

Good point that idols open “the door for people to hold to the pagan doctrine of regeneration and creation through chaos”.
Thanks for reading this brother Frank
Yikes! Sobering report. Thanks for covering this.
Thanks for dropping by and reading this Rick
Wow one would think its the Republicans who are violent if one listen to Big Media
More reasons I am glad I no longer belong to a political party. I left parties for good in 2016. My political views are rejected by both liberals and conservatives.
In this broken world all humans are desperately wicked as the Bible tells us. People of all political extremes engage in violence.
Christians definitely need to keep the Gospel front and center. Time can be better used in sharing God’s Word.
