I am now home from my missions trip.  Basically my trip back home began 10 PM on Thursday California Time (Pacific Standard Time) and I got back on Sunday.

Thank you all for your prayers.  I think I was more fatigue with jet lag with this trip than other previous trips.  I must be getting older.

trinity

1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith: 2.3c

but distinguished by several peculiar relative properties and personal relations; which doctrine of the Trinity is the foundation of all our communion with God, and comfortable dependence on him.

1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith: 11:4

God did from all eternity decree to justify all the elect,11 and Christ did in the fullness of time die for their sins, and rise again for their justification; nevertheless, they are not justified personally, until the Holy Spirit in time does actually apply Christ to them.

From the 1689 London Baptist Confession and the Scriptures we know that the Triune God works together to accomplish the redemption of His people. Redemption fulfills the Father’s eternal plan. The redemption of God’s people is based on the Son’s perfect life and glorious work on the cross by shedding His blood. The Spirit powerfully applies Christ’s work of redemption.

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:7-12 ESV)

The Trinitarian theology in the New Testament is a Christ–centered Trinitarianism.

Teaching: Christ’s redemptive work is the ground and center of the triune God’s perfect redemption. Christ saves His people chosen by the Father, through the regenerating work of the Spirit.

Let’s see today the Particularity, Power, Perfection, and Purpose of Redemption.

Throughout much of history, people have used watchtowers for various purposes. East Berlin had several (with one remaining) to alert guards of people trying to escape their socialist paradise. Towers were set up to watch for fires. See a movie about the cavalry in a Western movie and notice the towers to watch for attackers.

It was very common for cities and castles to have walls built to keep out marauders, and of course, those had towers as well. However, towers were not the only place for sentries and lookouts; they also walked on those thick walls.

Baby in womb

Do you often hear pro-choicers say that the Bible endorses abortion?

Are you familiar with the verses they use to support their case?

The goal I have with this blog is to go through the most common verses used by pro-choicers and see whether their claims hold up.

We are all familiar with the Parable of the Good Samaritan. Gotquestions.org has a good overview of this parable that Jesus gave us which can be viewed at the link below. Go ahead and take the time to read it, it’s OK, I’ll wait . . .

https://www.gotquestions.org/parable-Good-Samaritan.html

I’m going to include a portion of a paragraph from the link above which reads as follows:

“Thus, the lessons of the Parable of the Good Samaritan are three-fold:

(1) we are to set aside our prejudice and show love and compassion for others.

(2) Our neighbor is anyone we encounter; we are all creatures of the creator and we are to love all of mankind as Jesus has taught.

(3) Keeping the law in its entirety with the intent to save ourselves is an impossible task; we need a savior, and this is Jesus.”

Hair loss

When I was a young man, people often complimented me on my very thick head of dark brown hair. It was so thick I could barely get a comb through it. But in my late twenties, I began to notice hair on my pillow and clogging the drain after a shower. Argh! I was losing my hair and going bald. But how bald would I get? Would I be like my father with a very pronounced receding hairline, but some remaining hair on top or would I go complete chrome-dome like my Uncle Leo? I must admit, gradually losing my hair over a long period of time was a bit unnerving. It didn’t help that family and friends noticed and commented on my thinning hair.

cross

Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.(Matthew 28:1-10 ESV)This portion of the resurrection like that of the other three gospels (John 20, Mark 16, Luke 24) tells us about the great proof that Christ has satisfied the Father’s justice and wrath and He has paid in full the debt of His people.

From the text, we can glean three descriptions of the resurrection of Christ.

Because I deserve it

“Wow, I sure had a rough week. I’m going to order out for some extra nice food because I deserve it.”

“After being subjected to hours of mindless cookie-cutter pop music, I’m going to listen to Alice Sara Ott play Grieg’s piano concerto. I really deserve that.”

“You’ve been doing a good job even though you had one of our inferior hosses to work with. Get yourself over to the remuda tomorrow morning and get a good one. You deserve it.”

“The people deserve to know how elected officials are spending their tax money!”

“That guy disrespected me and Imma hurt him ‘cuz he deserves it!”

balaams_oracles_are_messianic

Establish the need: What are the details of the Messiah in Numbers 24?

Review: Last week we considered five reasons we believe Balaam’s third and fourth discourse found in Numbers 24:5-9 and Numbers 24:14-19 are Messianic prophecies.

  1. Clues from the Pentateuch: a prophetic poem at the end of an era
  2. Clues from themes from the Abrahamic Covenant in Balaam’s narrative
  3. Clues from themes in Genesis 49 in Balaam’s narrative
  4. Clues from the narrator of Balaam’s narrative
  5. Objection: Isn’t Balaam a false prophet?

Purpose: In this session we will consider three details about the Messiah found in Numbers 24:7-9 and refute an objection

  1. The Messianic Seed will be a King of Israel (Numbers 24:7)
  2. The Messianic Seed will be come out of Egypt (Numbers 24:8)
  3. The Messiah will bless those who bless Him and curse those who curse Him (Numbers 24:9)
  4. Objection: Isn’t this about Saul?

bible_contradiction_resolved_is_god_s_will_always_done_in_heaven

For today’s post we will tackle the question the Skeptic Annotated Bible asked: Is God’s will always done in heaven?

Here are the two answers which the skeptic believes shows a Bible contradiction:

Yes

“Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven..” (Matthew 6:10)

No

“And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war,” (Revelation 12:7)

(All Scriptural quotation comes from the New American Standard Bible)

Here’s a closer look at whether or not there is a contradiction:

Free: Chapel Library

Want something short to read while also being helpful concerning family Bible studies and family worship? I recommend this booklet fom Chapel Library!  This is written by J. H. Merle d’Aubigne.  Sadly I did not who he was until I got this from Chapel Library.  J. H. Merle d’Aubigne was a Swiss pastor and historian of the Reformation who lived from 1794-1872 and from what I can tell online he is most famous for his History of the Reformation of the Sixteenth Century.  For someone that could write serious history the author was also gifted to write practically and simply making this a highly recommended resource!
