Foolish Objections against Christianity in light of 1 Corinthians 1:18-20

Yesterday I wrote my post “Bible Contradiction? Did Paul go to Jerusalem immediately after his conversion? and from the comments I thought about how I have heard this alleged contradiction has actually been brought up many times including when I was in college by a professor.

Then today I saw this clip from the son of a famous preacher, and this son apostated from Christianity.  These days he’s making videos attacking Christianity.

Now this video has been inserted by a meme like responses for you to get the idea of the silly things this guy is saying.

There’s the self-refuting statement with denying absolute truth.

Furthermore this guy has an incorrect view of what’s a biblical understanding of faith; see my Apologetics Session 3: Relationship of Faith and Reason. So in essence he’s committed a strawman fallacy.

It made me think about how seeing two back to back objections against Christianity the last two days how sometimes the most silly kinds of objections are actually what’s popular and spreads the quickest whether online or offline.

In thinking about this I can’t help but to think about 1 Corinthians 1:18-20=

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the understanding of those who have understanding, I will confound.” 20 Where is the wise person? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has God not made foolish the wisdom of the world?

This reminds me that there’s a spiritual component with all that’s going on.

Not only is there the noetic effect of sin on an unbeliever’s intellect (which Romans 1 also attests to) but also we see God frustrating those who think they are wise, but really are not by rejecting God.  Its a judicial act of God making the foolish the wisdom of the world.

I’m also aware that can easily be me.  If it were not for God’s grace.  That’s humbling.  And makes me more gentle with nonbelievers even as we point out there errors.  We go back to the Gospel.  And point to the Gospel.  What is the Gospel? We are all sinners.  We think we are wise in our sins but we are we are not for true wisdom is fearing God (Proverbs 1:7).  We need God’s grace to be forgiven of our sins.  God’s grace is demonstrated through Jesus.  Jesus lived righteously and died for the sins of those who would trust in Him alone.

The world will think this Gospel is foolish. But as they try to reject the biblical worldview the more their folly comes out.
