I have heard well meaning Christians tell me that they like Presuppositional Apologetics. Which of course I’m happy to hear as an advocate of Presuppositional apologetics.  They say that it is because we need to point out that nonbelievers have presuppositions.  That’s true but Presuppositional apologetics is more than just pointing out non-Christians have presuppositions too.

I don’t want to make this to be political.

But it is sad that with a shooting that people can still blame Christian victims.

bible_contradiction_did_mary_magdalene_recognize_jesus_when_he_first_appeared_to_her

For today’s post we will tackle the question the Skeptic Annotated Bible asked: Did Mary Magdalene recognize Jesus when he first appeared to her?

Here are the two answers which the skeptic believes indicate a Bible contradiction:

Yes, she recognized him.

And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Rejoice!” And they came up and took hold of His feet, and worshiped Him.” (Matthew 28:9)

No, she didn’t recognize him.

When she had said this, she turned around and *saw Jesus standing there, and yet she did not know that it was Jesus.” (John 20:14)

Jesus didn’t appear to her; she had a vision of angels who told her that he was alive.

and did not find His body, they came, saying that they had also seen a vision of angels who said that He was alive.” (Luke 24:23)

(All Scriptural quotation comes from the New American Standard Bible)

Here’s a closer look at whether or not there is a contradiction:

Man Walking Deserted HIghway in Utah

As a pastorI felt I had to watch out with health risks since I’m meeting with people often and often they want to eat when we meet up; and our church was small so I work at home.  Those two things are things that if one is not careful can negatively hurt a pastor’s health.

Often I find pastors aren’t necessarily lazy.  Its a job that can have a lot at hand that’s hard to turn off the clock when there’s needs all odd hours.

So I try to walk for health.

Paul1_001

When I think of Timothy in the Bible I often think about the Pastoral Epistles, an assistant of Paul and a missionary of sorts.

But there’s one thing that I have been thinking about lately concerning Timothy’s role.

Revealed Apologetics

Recently Revealed Apologetics had a discussion on Greg Bahnsen, one of my favorite apologist who passed away in 1995.

The interview is with his son David Bahnsen.  In the interview he talks about his father’s contribution to apologetics, his father’s theology and also David Bahnsen’s own beliefs.

I appreciate David Bahnsen; when I was a young man he sent me some of his dad’s lecture series on ancient and modern philosophy on CDs.  It was an expensive series that I couldn’t afford when I was in college.  I imagine there’s many others that have benefited from his generosity.

van til edited

Cornelius Van Til is a theologian, apologist and philosopher that I appreciate since he tried to be biblically driven during his life time and academic career (Years ago I posted A SYLLABUS ON CORNELIUS VAN TIL’S HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT AND CONTRIBUTION TO PRESUPPOSITIONAL APOLOGETICS).

His writings are not always easy to read but it is always rewarding for me to work through them especially when he gives great insight with theological and apologetics methods.

I want to share something that I read recently that touches on how how we understand the characteristics of the Bible depend upon other teachings in the Bible on other major areas.

For today’s post we will tackle the question the Skeptic Annotated Bible asked: Did the eleven disciples believe the two men who claimed to see Jesus?

Here are the two answers which the skeptic believes indicate a Bible contradiction:

Yes, since he had already appeared to Simon.

And they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together and those who were with them, 34 saying, “The Lord has really risen and has appeared to Simon!”” (Luke 24:33-34)

No.

Now after that, He appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking along on their way to the country. 13 And they went away and reported it to the rest, but they did not believe them, either.” (Mark 16:12-13)

Prosperity Gospel

Many love Ephesians 3:20:

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,

It is a great verse.

But it can be misapplied. I have seen this used to promote prosperity Gospel. (more…)
