Christians: When you hear the Gospel preach, do you feel its something not for you, but for the non-Christians?
Now it is true that non-Christians need to hear the Gospel being preached; we want them to not only hear the Gospel but also believe and trust in the Gospel. Romans 1:16 makes it clear that the Gospel is the power of God to save sinners from the Wrath of God: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
Yet we must also not miss Romans 1:15 which indicates the Gospel is also for believers!
“So, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.”
Note Paul here is addressing the Church in Rome (see Romans 1:1). The Church of course consists of believers. In addressing his listeners Paul in Romans 11:28 talk about his hearers as Christians: “In relation to the gospel they are enemies on your account, but in relation to God’s choice they are beloved on account of the fathers;” Paul in Romans 1:15 is saying he desires to preach the Gospel when he’s at the Church of Rome. In writing the letter to the Church we have the Epistles of Romans reveal the deep theology of God’s Gospel to save sinners!
Paul’s intended destination when he wrote Romans is to go to Spain (see Romans 15:24, 28). Yet Romans 1:15 mentioned he wants to preach the Gospel to believers.
This shows us that as Christians we need to hear the Gospel too.
In fact that’s how Christians grow; it is from meditating and focusing on the Gospel!
Meditate and focus! “You will keep the mind that is dependent on You in perfect peace, for it is trusting in You. Trust in the Lord forever, because in Yah, the Lord, is an everlasting rock!”
Isaiah 26:3-4 HCSB

Yah the LORD it reads!
Amazing passage! THanks for sharing this BG
I’m thinking this says it all ” ….. for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes ….” Blessings!
Amen to that!!!
Good point! As new Christians we marvelled at the Gospel. As time goes by, we can distance ourselves from the Gospel and begin to think, That’s old news. I don’t need to hear that anymore. We can become hard-hearted and puffed-up as “seasoned” Christians.
Indeed that’s a dangerous place to be. Christians going through that might actually need to grow more in-depth with the Gospel! Still there is nothing that moves my heart and love for Jesus and God like the Gospel! How goes your day with the weather?
We got 34F, cloudy, and flurries coming later today. Typical ROC. How’s the weather in your new locale?
We not only need to hear it and respond to it to be saved, we also need to live it out daily. Paul said,” work out your own salvation, for it is God who is at work in you both to desire and work for His good pleasure” Philippians 2: 12-13. The aspects of the gospel ought to be powerful motivators for us in dealing with the old man and others. (Philippians 2:5-11). As well as great encouragement and hope for the future (1corinthians 11).
Amen! Glad you bought other verses to bear! Amen!!!
This line says it all: “In fact that’s how Christians grow; it is from meditating and focusing on the Gospel!” We need more folks to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior for sure. But we need even more for those who follow Jesus to grow! It all starts with us! Appreciate your reminder!
Amen pastor! “ We need more folks to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior for sure. But we need even more for those who follow Jesus to grow!” well said!!
Amen! The good news is the power of God. Christians need to hear it and revel in it all the time.
Blessings.
Amen! It is an awesome power of God
Our lives should marinate in the gospel with ingredients continually added. The effect is that we spill over onto others. That fragrance should enter the room before we do.
Wow I love how you said that; well said sir!
Thanks Jim. How else do we pass the “sniff test” so the world wants what we’ve got.
Given the state of todays “church” we aren’t hearing enough.
Ah true, very true sadly
Good reminder that we need to hear the Gospel preached as well as unbelievers. We should not neglect the opportunity to do so.
Amen and amen!
The gospels were written for we who believe. For an example Luke 1:3-4,
“3 With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus,4 so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.”
Amen brother! Amen!!
We can never hear the gospel enough! We may know His Way, but what happens if the light in us goes out…we lose our way! His Word is powerful and active in all circumstances for all people, saved and unsaved. Praise God for His Compassion on us each day.
So thankful to God for His compassion!
So true. We do need to listen to the gospel and appreciate God’s sacrifice. I am still convicted everytime I hear the gospel message preach. It still brings tears to my eyes and I cannot understand when no one responds to it. One of my favorite song is “Just as I am…” Thank you for sharing
Aww thanks for sharing that; I feel as I grow more in the faith the Gospel moves me more and more than when I first heard it!
Praise 👏 the Lord. I agree with you 💯
Truth.
And amen Maw Maw; how are you???
Doing well. Not having surgery.
Last year, the congregation in filling the pulpit at about every other week asked me to follow the Revised Common Lectionary for my preaching topic. The Lectionary has a Gospels passage every week, and most of the time, I used that as my main text. It has been both a learning and growing experience for me.
But the nice thing about the Lectionary is that it also has an OT text, a chapter or portion of a Psalm, and another NT text outside the Gospels, all of which provide background, context, and support for the gospel passage. The OT is especially important, because the early church only had that, and perhaps some scattered fragments of Jesus’s teachings that some had written down. The OT can reveal a fuller understanding of the Gospels and the rest of the NT.
I agree wholeheartedly with this: “ The OT can reveal a fuller understanding of the Gospels and the rest of the NT.” I feel God has been teaching me more the depth of the OT roots for the NT! That’s awesome you teach on the OT!
Amen! As a believer, I need to be continually nourished with the Gospel.
Amen this is needed
Amen! Daily renewal of the spirit!
Aww amen! You summarized it! Are you guys doing ok with all the snowing?
Yes, thanks to The Faithfulness of The Lord, we are in warm place of shelter with plenty of food and water. Thank you for asking, Jimmy.
