Fahrenheit 451 and the danger of a worldview driven by cheap Hedonism that is weaponized by the ruling class

I rarely watch movies but I did last night. I watched Fahrenheit 451.

Here’s the trailer:

It got me thinking about how relevant it is to today.

I know it originally was a book. I understand there was even a 1960s movie made of this movie too.

Somehow it seems that in some ways the story is a big warning for today.

We live in a time where people are in search of pleasures; of course people always search for pleasure to some extent but we live in a social and cultural flux where happiness trumps over truth; in fact the search for happiness is so important in our era it trumps all other facts, be it biological, chemical or others domain.

You see this with the religious pluralism, moral relativism and political views that are adopted more as fashion statements than based upon sound reasoning and a robustly coherent worldview.

What made this story a nightmare horror is also the fact that people in society were drugged with eyedrops that people take that suppress memory and memory of parents and family. In fact the film makes it clear that there’s a lack of family in the protaganist’s life. The powers that be want to erode the importance of family, and not just the importance of written books.

Don’t we see that today with Satan’s destruction of families worldwide?

Every wrong direction in culture often is a reaction to something that was wrong before. The movie feature the firemen who were burning books (instead of putting out fires) saying that there’s too many opinions and in history people once wage entire wars based upon preferences and choice of books. While that has truth behind it, nevertheless the solution is an overkill and horrible: Getting rid of all books.

Don’t we hear some secular extremists today argue in that way about the Bible, Christianity, etc?

In these crazy times this movie should make us think about the danger our society is heading towards with this worldview shift.

While we are on the topic of books we need to turn to the Book of Books: The Bible.

Let us who know the Bible share its message to a loss and dying world that there are such things as transcendent meaning. Let us preach the truth that people and society are sinful and depraved. But let us also offer hope found in Christ dying and saving sinners, for those who trust in Him as Lord and Savior. We can’t do enough good things to go to heaven; only Christ along can save.
