When I think of Timothy in the Bible I often think about the Pastoral Epistles, an assistant of Paul and a missionary of sorts.
But there’s one thing that I have been thinking about lately concerning Timothy’s role.
Philippians 2:19-20 states:
But I hope, [a]in the Lord Jesus, to send Timothy to you shortly, so that I also may be encouraged when I learn of your condition. 20 For I have no one else of kindred spirit who will genuinely be concerned for your welfare.
Timothy was someone who went to check on churches Paul planted. He went to these churches and met with Paul and gave him a report.
The report isn’t meant to be a legalistic report; but it was meant to encourage Paul. Furthermore Timothy was to minister and care for the church he’s visited also. Of course if there’s a bad report Timothy was going to tell Paul the truth. But still Timothy’s journey to and fro was meant to encourage churches, the Apostle and “missionary” Paul and through that also others would be encouraged.
We need Timothys today in our churches. We need “Timothys” also in the missions world.
Pray for Timothys for today. I’m praying I can be a Timothy.
Let me be a Timothy!
Amen
I’m praying for your new ministry, brother.
Thanks for the prayers I appreciate it very much brother Tom
🙏 It’s my blessing to be a prayer partner in this new ministry the Lord has led you.
I’m a little confused by your title. I agree with what you say in the article, but it doesn’t seem to match the title, unless I’m not understanding what you mean by “overlook.”
Okay, my bad. I thought your title implied we could “ignore” or “excuse” that role as something not needed, but your title must be implying we can “miss” that role if we’re not paying attention. Sorry about that! 😊
I could have titled it better since I wrote this at 2 aM; my apologies!
I understand brother. At times I have written something I thought was clear and everyone would understand. Thank you, for that makes me feel much better, knowing I am not the only one who makes these slight kinds of errors. The word often or frequently, instead of “can” is probably what you meant.
Anyway, it was a good post. It’s interesting, I was just writing about that very thing, and you gave me a bit of information that will be useful in my article, thank you.
Where do you post your article at?
I don’t have a blog. My article is going to be part of a chapter in a book I am writing which deals with four doctrines. This information will be in chapter 7, dealing with tithing. Of course, you may wonder how that fits in, well, you would have to read it to find out.
Reblogged this on clydeherrin.
Excellent. May we take on the “Timothy role”.
Shalom!
Amen!!!
Good post brother. Most folks don’t realize that Tim I and II are the only epistles written to instrhct one person, not a church body.
There is Paul’s format for church planting and operation, elders, deacons, priorities and warnings.
If only churches today would follow Paul’s exhortations!
Always good to see your posts Pastor.
I am glad to hear from you! You are right there is much to be gained from studying Pastoral Epistles for pastors, leaders and church operations today! Good point brother!!!
I have said before that I view myself as a missionary to missionaries to love and encourage those who doing the Lord’s work and serve in remote parts. My heart is also for their children because often times their family especially when starting a church plant in remote places may be the only Christians they interact with. This is a really good post. I will pray for you with this!
Wow I totally see that role you have not just with missionaries but those who are pastors and their family
Ministry is a huge responsibility and any part I can play in encouraging ministry workers I am glad to do it. FYI Ligonier National Conference started today. I thought today’s morning speakers were really excellent if you ever get a chance to listen.

Well said and needed in a season “self”…even among the people of God.
Thanks for reading this! Blessings to you sister!
I think you are like him.
Wow what an encouragement
I love you, Sweetie. You encourage ME. 🙂
Excellent. May we take on the “Timothy role”.

Pastor Jim, I believe you have been growing up to Paul from Timothy, and may God give you more Timothys to pass on what He has given to you 🙂

Wow thanks for the encouragement. I feel so weak and frail. Pray for God’s wisdom and grace for this new ministry as I feel it’s very new
May we all be like Timothy.
A big amen brother, amen!
