Here’s the trailer:
It got me thinking about how relevant it is to today.

Are you looking for spiritually edifying reading on the birth of Christ that is also biblically faithful and accurate? This work is from Charles Spurgeon, the famous Victorian era Baptist Preacher. Based upon a sermon he delivered at his church at New Park Street Chapel on Christmas Eve 1854, it blew my mind that these words was from Spurgeon when he was twenty years old. The message in based upon Isaiah 7:14-15 and the truth Spurgeon delivered is timeless, Christ-centered and Gospel driven.

Want something short to read while also being helpful concerning family Bible studies and family worship? I recommend this booklet fom Chapel Library! This is written by J. H. Merle d’Aubigne. Sadly I did not who he was until I got this from Chapel Library. J. H. Merle d’Aubigne was a Swiss pastor and historian of the Reformation who lived from 1794-1872 and from what I can tell online he is most famous for his History of the Reformation of the Sixteenth Century. For someone that could write serious history the author was also gifted to write practically and simply making this a highly recommended resource!

Can God use the persecution of Christians for the good of bringing nonbelievers to Christ? Christians would know the right answer is yes yet many would not to be persecuted if they don’t have to be. In this booklet famous preacher and evangelist George Whitefield wrote us something encouraging and edifying with a look at Saul and how God changed this man that persecuted the church to become an Apostle and incredible Gospel preacher name Paul. While George Whitefield delivered us his words hundreds of years ago (he lived from 1714 to 1770) I think what he has to say is relevant for 21st Century believers as the world gets more secular and persecutions of Christians is on the rise worldwide.

How do you react to the Word of God? We are living in an age where there’s irreverence to the Word of God. This past week of dealing with those who attack God’s Word made me want to read this booklet to nourish my soul. A few page into this Spurgeon’s word leaped out at me when he said “Oh, it is ill with a man’s soul, be sure of that, when he can treat the Word of the Lord with lightness, and regard it as no more than the word of Shakespeare or Spencer.” How much even more so is the ill of a man’s soul that openly mock and slander God’s Word! This booklet is based upon a sermon on Isaiah 66:2 that Spurgeon preached in 1889. Even though it is over a hundred years old nevertheless the message about trembling and respecting God’s Word is relevant even for the Twenty first century.

I have been receiving different issues from them since I order booklets of famous old preachers and teachers such as Charles Spurgeon but this is the first time I read one of the Free Grace Broadcaster since the topic of Messianic Prophecies fascinated me. My soul was fed reading this, like how my soul delights with reading sound Christians preachers from previous centuries with the combination of my fascination with Messianic prophecies which made this read a savoring spiritual delight!

This is a later post in the day than usual! Just got back from my vacation!
One of the amazing place we visited was a historic Dutch town in America. If you follow this blog for sometime you know I love Dutch Reformed theology and also the contribution of Dutch Americans to Christian theology and apologetics, namely Cornelius Van Til. It was a treat to see places with last names of Kuyper and other other Dutch family names around this town that often I see as last names of authors in the books of theologians and thinkers.
And one of the things I love about Dutch Neo-Calvinist Reformed thinkers such as Van Til, Kuyper and Bavinck is their observations of the inter-relationships of spheres and things, and inter-disciplinary nature of knowledge and sphere sovereignty.
One treat during my trip was seeing Dutch windmills. It totally blew my mind and also got me thinking tangent to the topic of Cornelius Van Til, inter-disciplines and innovations and appreciation for the truth of the Christian worldview.

When you struggle to pray, does it blow you away that the Spirit prays for you? Yes this is true, Romans 8:26-27 teaches this. This booklet is a look at Romans 8:26-27 by my favorite long-ago preacher, Charles Spurgeon, who provide some spiritual thoughts and reflection and encouragement with this truth of the Spirit’s ministry. This book is from an April 11th, 1880 sermon that Spurgeon preached at his church the Metropolitan Tabernacle. Whether you struggle to pray or need some spiritual encouragement I recommend this. I read this while I was on vacation and wondered if Spurgeon ever thought that what he has to say would minister to someone 142 years later.

This is based upon a sermon on Jesus’ words in Mark 11:24 that Spurgeon preached on August 12th, 1860 in England. Though it is over 160 years since he preached it and when I read this nevertheless I think what Spurgeon has to say is timeless and spiritually edifying.

The Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit glorifies Jesus, yet what implications does this have for the Christian life? In this booklet published by Chapel Library my favorite Victorian era English preacher Charles Spurgeon answers that question. This is based upon a sermon that Spurgeon delivered on August 17th, 1862 yet is relevant for today. I was blown away thinking that Spurgeon was twenty eight years old when he preached this sermon at London’s Metropolitan Tabernacle. It made me appreciate what God has done through this man to bless God’s people than and also now with his writings.
