Thomas Sowell.  The Quest for Cosmic Justice.  New York, NY: Free Press, February 5, 2002. 224 pp.

5 out of 5

Purchase: Amazon

Have you notice a redefinition of “justice” today among those who are advocates of Social Justice?  Even if you think this doesn’t interests you it is definitely affecting you and costing you directly and indirectly today by the actions of its advocate.  These ideas though are nothing new and over the decades of ministry in college campuses I see these ideas discussed in Academia is now being yelled out aloud literally and the consequences being reaped on the streets of America in 2020.  This book was originally published in 1999 but reading this in 2020 I was blown away how relevant it is twenty one years later.  The observations that the author made and also his refutations is very powerful and I love how factual and data driven the author is.  This is probably the most important book I read in 2020 and I’m surprised why more people don’t know about this book.  Out of the six books I have read from author Thomas Sowell this to me is one of the best book I have read from him and it is not only compelling but reading this book is a training session of how to think soundly in the realm of social sciences, economics and discussions about what is justice.

I have gotten less political over the years and while I do not believe salvation or the kingdom of God is achieved by political means nevertheless I believe Christians must be informed so that when they practice the privilege of voting in the United States they vote not against biblical principles but as much as possible consistent with it.  Over the years California legislature has become increasingly tyrannical against Christians values in the name of “tolerance.”

So here’s the voter’s guide for Los Angeles County for November 3rd, 2020:

I have gotten less political over the years and while I do not believe salvation or the kingdom of God is achieved by political means nevertheless I believe Christians must be informed so that when they practice the privilege of voting in the United States they vote not against biblical principles but as much as possible consistent with it.  Over the years California legislature has become increasingly tyrannical against Christians values in the name of “tolerance” with Assembly Bill 2943 as a recent example which Alliance Defending Freedom Attorney Matt Sharp explain what the implications of this bill means if it is passed:

California AB 2943 makes it unlawful for any person to sell books, counseling services, or anything else that helps someone overcome unwanted same-sex attraction or gender identity confusion. As a result, it could be a violation if a pastor encourages a congregant to visit the church book store to purchase books that help people address sexual issues, perhaps including the Bible itself, which teaches about the importance of sexual purity within the confines of marriage between a man and woman.”

Its something to watch out for and like last year’s state legislature attempt with the bill to go against Christian colleges and universities with an LGBT agenda these guys aren’t getting less active but more so.

Have you ever seen Monster’s Inc?  If so do you remember this scene?

This was the scene towards the end of the movie in which the character Henry Waternoose, the CEO for “Monster’s Inc.,” a company that sells electric power was about to be arrested who said he’s willing to “kidnap a thousand children before I let this company die.”

Of course a company and its leader willing to kidnap a thousand children for the sake of its company survival is immoral.  Disney Pixar who made this film knows that and the audiences does so too.

I can’t help but to think of the parallel that shows just how different we treat Planned Parenthood, America’s largest company committing abortionists.

So what’s the difference between Monster’s Inc and Planned Parenthood?

Two double standards I want to note.

I evangelize weekly on college campuses.  There’s been more than once where I had a conversation with a “Disingenuous Liberal” usually after a long conversation that makes the following assertion during different moments of the conversations:

It’s like they don’t notice the double standard.  Most of the time how the second premise (“Hitler is a Christian”) get brought up in the conversation is part of a moral objection against Christianity (“Christians have done a lot of evil in history!  Hitler was a Christian!”).  Of course that objection in of itself is not without its problems.  For instance I think those who make such a charge haven’t taken into consideration Hitler was a politician; we should study more carefully Hitler’s beliefs when he was a nobody and when he was in full power which often suggest’s Hitler’s more genuine beliefs when he was less susceptible to the need to appease people for their support.  A great book that explored Hitler’s worldview is the work Hitler’s Philosophers by Yvonne Sherratt.  Hitler is no Christian once one understand his worldview.  Ironically when some progressives hear Christians talk about radical Islam suddenly these terrorists aren’t true Muslims because Islam is peaceful and these “jihadists” are doing things that goes against the Quran.

Related to this is another double standard with “Disingenuous Liberals:”

Outside of the blogosphere I do a lot of campus evangelism.  I hear the word “safespace” and see it on campus flyers and students talking about it.  Progressives seem to love talking about how the University ought to be a safespace.  I don’t know if they mean what they say as this clip below demonstrate.

What happens when your safe space is the library?  You speak to truth to power.  Like this Asian man.

Here’s  a social justice warrior that takes a stand for a place of learning.  I want to say one more thing.

praying

The Presidential election is over.  Donald Trump is the President.

As a Christian I’m glad to see the new president isn’t Hillary Clinton.  At the same time I’m cautious with Donald Trump.

I imagine many Christians were praying for the election.  I think Christians shouldn’t just stop praying after the election.  As I mentioned in a post a few days ago, Christians should Meditate on 1 Timothy 2:1-2 before and after the 2016 Election.  And that verse calls Christians to pray for those in authority.

This has been my prayer:

Dear Lord,

Allow Donald Trump to uphold justice, the Constitution and have a prolife policy that saves lives.

Christians must definitely be informed in how they vote where they vote not against their principles but as much as for it.  You might not think there’s much reason to vote concerning presidential candidates but there’s still other candidates for other offices where your vote counts even more.

(For the record I can’t bring myself to vote neither of the two party’s candidate for president)

Undemocratic Jay Sekulow

Jay Sekulow. Undemocratic: How Unelected, Unaccountable Bureaucrats Are Stealing Your Liberty and Freedom.   Brentwood, Tennessee: Howard Books, May 19th, 2015. 289 pp.

This book is about the problem with the bureaucracy of the Federal Government and how unaccountable that have become in today’s government.  The book is written by Jay Sekulow who is probably best known to most people for his radio show “Jay Sekulow Live!” and as the Chief Counsel with the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ, not to be confused with the ACLU).  In this book he documents the frightening abuse and mismanagement of bureaucrats who sets their own agenda contrary to the other three branch of government and the will of the American people.
