If you are on Twitter you might notice the hashtag “#keeplexihome.”  There’s a petition on Change.org with the following description:

There is a 6 year old little girl who is going to be ripped away from the only family that she has ever known. Her name is Lexi. The first year of her life she moved from foster placement to foster placement. Lexi has been with a loving, stable family for nearly five years and is thriving and a happy, healthy little girl. To Lexi this family is her everything – her mommy, daddy and brother and sisters. Unfortunately, since Lexi is 1.5% Choctaw, the state of California and LA County have allowed the Indian Child Welfare Law to devastate this family and will be pulling Lexi from her Mommy and Daddy on Sunday to move her to Utah to live with a non-blood related family who aren’t even members of the tribe. I’m pleading with you to please sign our petition & pass this around to everyone you know. LA County & California need to know that Lexi’s rights, stability and permanence matter!

At this very moment on Monday morning the California Supreme Court is hearing this case and I’m praying for God’s mercy upon the girl and the family.  If you are led to, please pray as well for God’s mercy with the magistrates.

The family attends Grace Community Church and even their head pastor John MacArthur has tweeted about this.

There’s a lot to the case but here in this post I want to focus on the folly of contemporary racial laws.

This is a post that I forgot to share before I posted our .   Be sure to check out that post for more resources concerning the issue of homosexuality and the Bible.

Fred Butler alerted me to this resource over at his blog.  Don Green, a long time pastor at John MacArthur’s Church (Grace Community) and leader at Grace to You Broadcast is now pastoring as a senior Pastor at Truth Community Church.  They have recently completed a conference on the topic of the Bible and Homosexuality in which they are calling the church to have a courageous confidence in Christ.

The nice thing is that they have made the audios to this conference available for the world on their website here.

Here’s the sessions linked to the audios:

1. Refuting the Five Myths on Homosexuality

2. Why Homosexuality is Wrong

3. Scripture, Shellfish, and Homosexual Sin

4. Addressing the Heart of Same-Sex Attraction

5. The Future of the Church and Homosexuality

I have benefited from Don Green’s preaching in the past.  May this edify God’s people.

Today is the beginning of Shepherd’s Conference!  This year is the most amount of attendee, coming in at 3,400 people with over 1100 individuals here for the first time.

The opening Session featured John MacArthur preaching on the topic of Fellowship.

It was a good message on how the danger of our age of hyper-privacy has undermined true fellowship among believers.

I didn’t get to take notes on my laptop since I forgot my power cord but here’s some of the notable quotes or rough paraphrase that establish the need for this sermon:

“Only in the New Testament do we see the body motif for fellowship.”

In the Greek, the noun for fellowship is used eight times.

“What threaten fellowship?  Hyper-Privacy.”

With our technology today, every person can become like a god, downloading their own reality.

Borrowing a line from Carl Trueman: “Childishness is a textually transmitted disease.”

Our Culture has become more narcissitic, individualistic and entitled; that’s what our culture want.

Instead of a virtual church, at a real church:

  • You might face an enemy
  • Real people
  • Preacher who point out your sins against you

Everything about the church fight against hyper-privacy and narcissism.

This book answers the question of what is the church and how to do church. The strength of the book is that it sticks to the Scripture for the answer. It’s important that if the church is God’s institution, one must consider first what God has revealed His will from His Word before any other consideration. The author, John MacArthur, has a reputation of being a solid expositional Bible preacher who desires to be faithful to the Word of God in his teaching. This work is a fine example of him applying it to the question of the church. Yet the book is not a dry academic exercise: I felt that among all of MacArthur’s work, this one seems to me to be the most pastoral. There are bits and pieces of information given throughout the book that gave a window of the life of Grace Community Church, the church where MacArthur has pastured for over forty years. It was also an encouraging work for me to read as a Pastor who desires to please God in how I lead the church. Other members of the church will benefit from reading it as well.
The book is divided into three parts followed by the appendixes. Part one of the book explains the anatomy of the church in terms of the illustration of a human body, with a chapter on the skeletal structure, then one on the internal system, the muscle and the head of the church. Part two looks at the dynamic of the church. Among the chapters I appreciated in this section is MacArthurs’ look at the epistles to the Thessalonians for a biblical model of doing church and the chapter on the marks of an effective church. Chapter thirteen has a wonderful section on the shepherd and the sheep. It is one of the most detailed explanations about sheep I have found in my reading and it certainly illuminates the Bible’s motif of sheep/shepherd. It’s clear John MacArthur has done his homework. Finally, part three looks at the qualities of an excellent servant with three chapters.
The bulk of the appendixes is devoted to the topic of Elders and Deacons of the Church. John MacArthur puts a lot of emphasis on the moral and spiritual qualification of the leaders of the church (Elders, Pastors, Deacons) and rightly so, since this is the emphasis in the New Testament. The appendix on church discipline and restoring a believer is one that the church sorely needs to understand and apply today. If I have one minor criticism of the book it comes from the observation that the appendix makes up nearly half of the book. Maybe it’s better that the publishers call them chapters instead of appendixes given how some of them are longer than the chapters? Excellent work.

Good news for the cause of Christ.  John MacArthur’s Grace to You Broadcast is now going out to the Muslim World.

Over at Christian Post, this was the report:

Renowned preacher and author John MacArthur opened the four-day “Truth Matters” conference Thursday evening by announcing that his evangelistic television program began satellite TV broadcasting to the entire Muslim world for the first time that afternoon.

The TV program, “Grace To You,” also a global media ministry based in Panorama City, Calif., is a series of Bible studies led by MacArthur that were launched as audio-taped sermons more than 42 years ago.

MacArthur is the main speaker at the conference held at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, Calif. The event, which ends Sunday, is webcast live for free at truthmattersconference.org.

“There I am, preaching with Arabic subtitles on satellite television in 72 countries in North Africa, Europe and the Middle East,” MacArthur told the more than 3,500 at the conference and those watching on the Internet. “So, we are really grateful that the Lord opened up that opportunity for us. We just send the word out and let the Lord do what He will with it.”

You could read the rest of the article HERE.

May the Lord uses His Word to save people by the preaching of the GOSPEL that Jesus is the Lord and Savior of sinners, by the grace of God alone, through faith alone in Christ alone!

The guys over at Team Pyro responds to a recent current event of a lady in sin who has gone public to the media to fight back against a church who’s exercising church discipline.

The pastors happened to be graduates of The Master’s Seminary.

Some good points made about her irrationality of going to the Media about the church ‘making her sins public’:

  1. Ms. Hancock is so worried about how hearing of her sin in church will affect her (adult) children… that she goes to the media with it? So, instead of a small local congregation knowing about her sin, now (potentially) the whole world knows about her sin. That makes sense? Neither reporter thought to ask her about that?
  2. In fact, we’re to believe that Ms. Hancock thinks it would have less of a negative impact on her children to have the whole world know (A) of her sin, and (B) of her unwillingness to take responsibility for it. That made sense to the reporters? No question-marks? None?

Or for those of you more fancy into DVDs,

John MacArthur’s preaching is courageously against the false Prosperity Word of Faith Preachers today…And the insight he draws from this verse hit me hard and blew my mind away…

I’ve been misinterpreting this verse for years…
