20 And He *came home, and the crowd *gathered again, to such an extent that they could not even eat a meal. 21 When His own people heard of this, they went out to take custody of Him; for they were saying, “He has lost His senses.

–Mark 3:20-21 from the NASB

Once again we see a strange behavior of Jesus to serve his followers with the word of God, even to His own detriment. This is not the first time Jesus has skipped a meal in preference to feed His people the word of God and heal the sick. We see many other examples of this throughout his ministry. (Mark 1:45, Mark 3:7, Mark 6:31) This is in contrast to the Pharisees and scribes of the period who often sought their own glory and praise from men, without sacrificing anything themselves. (Matthew 23) How sad and ironic, the place where Jesus so often based his ministry here in Capernaum, near those who saw Him grow into a young man and knew his family, that his family (most likely his brothers sent by his mother) would call him crazy or out of his mind to the crowds to seize Him and do what they thought was best for Him. Jesus calls for a different standard, a standard even more important than food.

Note: This is the fourth installment of a seven part series we will feature on Sunday on the important topic of a Christian Theology of Health by Dr. Joshua Trock.  His Twitter account can be found here.

Idolatry and Our Bodies

“You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” 1 Cor 6:19-20

Gym rats. Cardio queens. Muscles Heads. CrossFit fanatics. In my previous articles I began each premise with the assumption that most of us are not eating healthy or exercising on a regular basis. I put focus on showing why there is a theological “ought” behind glorifying God with our health that included eating right and exercising. In this article I want to shift focus to the other extreme where a Christian may be taking healthy eating, sports and fitness to the point of idolatry. My hope is that we can use the same biblical grounding I put forth in my previous articles to create a robust guide to curb either extreme and to help align our thinking and planning to best glorify God with the freedom that we have regarding our health.

This is a fascinating article by LGBT activist Shane Windmeyer who wrote of his new friendship with Dan Cathy of Chick-fil-A. Shane is a gay activist and leader of Campus Pride who rallied against the chicken sandwich chain. He recently wrote a piece of praise to the man he previously called bigot, divisive and racist. These Christians were arrested in Iran.

Elam Ministries reported that the Governor of Tehran has vowed to arrest more evangelical Christians. Armed, plain-clothes, special security officers forcefully entered the homes of Christians while they were asleep, and verbally and physically abused them. They were handcuffed and taken for interrogation. Among those arrested were five married couples. One couple was separated from their two-year old baby. Another couple was also forced to leave their baby that the mother was breastfeeding. A number of single young women were also among those taken.

The security forces broke into at least five such homes, ransacking them, taking personal possessions, changing the locks and placing a government seal on the door. Family members of these Christians have been called by the authorities and threatened and harassed. They were instructed to tell the Christians to surrender themselves. None of them have been granted any legal representation. No charges have been made, though it is clear that they were arrested for their active Christian faith. There has been a gross lack of due process. The government authorities have not provided any written documents as to the reason for the arrests, any record of the items confiscated, and family members are not allowed to visit the detained.

The recent speech made byAyatollah Khamenei, the supreme leader of the Islamic republic of Iran, for the first time, warned his followers of the dangers of the rapid growth and expansion of home-based churches as the threat to the Islamic regime.

There is a great need for Christians to pray for these Christians who were arrested in Iran.

I believe the legalization of homosexual marriage and future laws pushing the homosexual agenda will be the tell-tale signs. Hate speech criteria and freedom of speech restrictions will mark just the beginning.

I thought I’d bookmark what certainly won’t be last hostile attack against the Christian faith:
