This Sunday at Church I want to encourage you to do the following: Encourage Someone to read the Old Testament.
I love the Bible.
New Testament and Old Testament.
But Old Testament is often more neglected by those in the Church.
Over the years I’ve found the Old Testament more and more interesting.
Don’t forget its Christian Scripture too! Read it yourself…but consider encouraging others to read and study the Old Testament!

We should not neglect the Old Testament. Good point.
Amen we should not neglect the Old Testament!! What treasures are found in the Old Testament!!’
Jesus and the apostles agree as they quote from it in the NT! Praise God for His precious Holy Word! 😀✝️✝️✝️📖
That they did in the New Testament!! Word!!! Amen brother!!!
Good suggestion.
Thanks!!! Hope you are doing well Julie!!

We need both the Old and New testaments; the old being Christ concealed and the new Christ revealed!
Word brother, word!! I do see your blog do post quite significantly on the Old Testament!!! Grateful for that bro!!! Do you have a favorite Old Testament book?
As a young believer I followed the choice of many for the New Testament, but two things changed that: 1.My brethren background and 2. My age, realising I needed to reset my balance between old and new Testaments.
With things in the Middle East coming to a head, I have been listening to a lot of messages on the Old Testament prophets, especially Ezekiel and Daniel. It’s reassuring to know that none of what’s happening is taking God by surprise.
Those two books are informative and illuminating with what’s going on doesn’t it???
Thanks for the good exhortation! When I was a new believer, I was a bit intimidated by the Old Testament with all of the details of Mosaic ceremonial laws and the tabernacle and the histories of the many kings of Israel, etc. What did that have to do with me? I thought. But I quickly began to see the “red thread” of Jesus and the Gospel woven throughout the OT in types and foreshadowings and it all opened up.
I love this: “ But I quickly began to see the “red thread” of Jesus and the Gospel woven throughout the OT in types and foreshadowings and it all opened up.” The Old Testament is so fascinating in this regard, making it so unique among all writings! Do you have a favorite Old Testament book?
Thanks, brother! The Book of Ruth is my favorite with the foreshadowing of the “kinsman-redeemer.” What’s your favorite?
Excellent brother! The only scripture the NT authors had was the Old Testament scripture.
Shalom!
Yes, the old testament is interesting to read. I learn alot reading the historical accounts it contains. It’s also fun to read too. Many a times, I found myself giggling out while reading the interesting pages of the O. T.
Wow awesome!! The Old Testament never cease to blow me away!! It is the portion of the Bible that I have so many questions and also been learning from the most this past year or so!!! Do you have a favorite Old Testament book?
No I don’t have any favourite book in the O. T. But I like the book of Genesis because of the wonderful stories in it. However, my favourite verse is in the OT: Jeremiah 9:11.
This week I have been reading the book of Judges. It’s the story of “In those days when there is no God in Israel…”. Imagine the anarchy, or vile things carried out during those days. Been an interesting read so far.
What about you, what’s your favourite book in the Bible?
I think I really like Genesis too! Although its hard because in some sense I like them all! I am now reading through Judges as well! Just finished chapter 8!
That’s Great. Any ample insights gleaned so far from the book of Judges?
I tried commenting on your blog to help your blog has some hits, views and comments…but it doesn’t look like it went through. So here goes:
I have been camping out on Gideon’s narrative in Judges 6-8 (now on 9). I was blown away how Gideon says he’s not king but his action of getting wealth and marrying many women show otherwise. His son’s name of Abimelech literally means “I am king” shows also Gideon doesn’t walk the walk of what he says, but his walk contradicts his talks and in the case of naming his child the action of his talk shows he cancels out his profession of not being a king! Ironic isn’t it?
Oh really? What’s the error message you got when you tried to comment? Please bear in mind that the blog is now self hosted, so to comment, name/email may be required to register .
You may want to try again and let me know if the problem persists.
Yes, the stories in Judges are really interesting. True, Gideon was not a king. But as Judge/warrior he wielded that authority. As I said before, the stories in Judges happened “in the days when Israel had no king.”
Thanks for sharing your observations. I look forward to reading more from you. Regards

Amen.
And amen! How was your Lords day?
It’s full of Christ. We also started our study on biblical marriage for young couples.
This is the cry of my heart and I do this as often as I possibly can! When I spoke with our young friend the other day on exodus I stressed to her the importance of the OT. I am so thankful for your heart to grow in the OT!!!!!
Well thank you for talking to that young friend! I appreciate your love for the old testament Mandy. That encourages me to study it more. Keep on growing in the word sister! I’ve been busy and have not been able to talk to you and Nathan much lately. Hope you guys are doing well?
How can we know where we are going if we don’t know where we came from.
Where we came from: Genesis 1-2, Psalm 139:14-16. Where we are going depends on one crucial decision we must make in this life. Our choice
Indeed sister indeed
Just recently dived back into Genesis. The one thing I’ve learned is that its difficult to understand the New Testament unless we have an understanding of the OT. For example, how are we to view accurately what is happening in Israel and the rest of the world today unless we have the backstory of why the powers of darkness are working so diligently to destroy her?
Awesome to see you reading Genesis
I identified with Isaiah and Jerimiah bc nobody listened ti them

Brother I do think God uses you as an evangelistic Light!!
Amen! The Old Testament has a lot of encouragement and teaches many good things.
Amen Cindy! When you said that I thought about Romans 15:4 which I think is Paul speaking about the Old Testament!
Straight from the mouth of God: “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.”
Amen what hope he does provide !!!!
I am grateful to attend a Bible-believing church which teaches the whole counsel of God (Old Testament included).
Wow praise be to God!! That’s not a given today with how churches are going as a trajectory. I’m glad to hear that sister!!

Wow amen sister, amen thank you for the encouragement!
Amen! If the O.T Scriptures are not read then there’s not point of reading N.T because it will not be understood.
Excellent article and a reminder.
Thanks for sharing
You are right about the OT! Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts and commenting on here!
Thanks for responding to my comments. I am a firm believer in what was written.
Amen. The Good News found in Jesus traces its beginnings to the Old Testament.
Amen! Jesus is found in traces in the OT, amen!
You won’t know the beauty of what Jesus did on that Cross at Calvary unless you read the OT
Amen Alade Joel, amen!
This year my goal is to read the Bible from beginning to end. I’m currently in 2nd Kings. I have to say that although I’ve been a Christian all my life, I’ve been taken by surprise by the Old Testament. I’ve had to do lots of soul searching to be able to set judgments aside in order to absorb the wisdom within the pages. I’ve been making a short video on YouTube summarizing each book as I finish them. Maybe my kids will one day become curious about my take on each of them. Great advice. Not for the weak at all
Do you have any links to your videos? Glad you are reading the OT!
