Persecution and deception

Mandy’s post on persecution got me on a tangent based upon a question Gersom Clark asked:

As Christians, what if we are persecuted, insulted, and falsely accused even if it is not because of CHRIST but simply how the world operates, will that still be covered in this Beatitude?

The specific Beatitude (Blessing) is from Matthew 5:10, which I will quote from Mandy’s post:

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Matt 5:10 NIV).

Bible Contradiction? How did Peter find out that Jesus was the Messiah?

 

Today’s post will tackle another question that the Skeptic Annotated Bible asked: “How did Peter find out that Jesus was the Messiah?”

Here are the answers which the skeptic believes shows a Bible contradiction:

God revealed it to him; no human told him.

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.. (Matthew 16:16-17)

His brother Andrew told him.

One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first *found his own brother Simon and *said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which translated means Christ). (John 1:40-41)

What is a book a young person can read to grow spiritually and maturity?  This is a classic by John Charles Ryle that is a timeless classic.  I think given our time this is also edifying for people in their 20s to also read.  John Charles Ryle who is best known by his pen name J.C. Ryle wrote this filled with godly and biblical exhortations that isn’t just applicable to his time period.  In fact in reading this the second time and also in conjunction with the youths in our church (pre-teens and teens) I felt it is more relevant and edifying than when I first read it ten years ago in my 20s.

God’s attribute: The Omnipresence of God Part 2

This is a series on the attributes of God.

Selected Scriptures

Purpose: In this session we shall look to the Old Testament for seven clarification of what God’s omnipresence means and also what does this mean for our lives.

Reminder of the definition of the omniscience of God:

1. Wayne Grudem: “God does not have size or spatial dimension and is present at every point of space with his whole being, yet God acts differently in different places.”[1]
2. John Feinberg: “God’s omnipresence, on the other hand, signifies that God is present in the totality of his being at each point in space.”[2]
3. John Frame: “Spatial omnipresence cannot mean that God is a physical substance spread through the material universe. What it means, rather is that God’s power, knowledge and ability to act in the finite world are universal.”[3]

Bible Contradiction? Who carried Jesus’ cross?

 

Today’s post will tackle another question that the Skeptic Annotated Bible asked: “Who carried Jesus’s cross?”

Here are the answers which the skeptic believes shows a Bible contradiction:

Jesus carried his own cross.

They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, carrying His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which in Hebrew is called, Golgotha. (John 19:17)

Simon the Cyrenian carried Jesus’s cross.

As they were coming out, they found a man of Cyrene named Simon, whom they compelled to carry His ^[cross. (Matthew 27:32)

And they *compelled a passer-by coming from the country, Simon of Cyrene (the father of Alexander and Rufus), to carry His cross. (Mark 15:21)

And when they led Him away, they seized a man, Simon of Cyrene, as he was coming in from the country, and placed on him the cross to carry behind Jesus. (Luke 23:26)

Blog Milestone: 1.9 Million Views

We hit a new milestone for our blog Veritas Domain: Sometime today February 17th at 2:50ish PM Pacific Standard Time we have 1.9 million total views!  That’s the total of view since our blog began in 2006 but with most of the hits taking place the last few years.

It was a little over 5 months ago we were at 1.8 million.

David Wood’s Video: Making Sense of the Ravi Zacharias Scandal

Thanks to Alf C. who brought this video to my attention over on his Twitter.

Apologist David Wood of Acts 17 Ministries has done a video that talked about the Ravi scandal.  I know a lot of people are commenting but I think this is one of the better discussions out there and also has some applications for everyone: apologists, those in ministry, every day Christians, judgmental Christians, enablers, etc.
