I saw this documentary on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning
It is a documentary on the Church’s response to abortion.
Here’s the film:
Here are my thoughts:
It was really well done. It feature different abolitionists who are involved with trying to end the abortion holocaust. While many are from Oklahoma there are others too like Jeff Durbin, a pastor in Arizona.
There is a distinction between abolition and pro-life. Over the decades there have been some who are prolife that might be seeing the sins of abortion in unbiblical light: for instance there can be the downplaying of abortion as murder. Or there’s a mentality of regulating abortion rather than ending it. I’m reminded of the days before the Civil War how some want to regulate slavery more than ending it. In the same way we see that today.
One of the angle I like with this documentary is the the theme of redemption. There’s people who are against abolition but later changed their mind. One example in the documentary is pastor Jon Speed who a few years ago was famous for the documentary Babies are Murdered Here. Pastor Speed wasn’t against abolition but against individuals and techniques of some with Abolition. I think for many Christians there needs to be the working out of the truth that if abortion really was murder we need to see those involved with abortion as committing the sins and crime of murder. And that needs to be stopped.
I also appreciated that there’s the story of a woman who have committed abortion before and there’s the story of Christ’s redemption. That is so powerful. I think this documentary did plainly and powerfully make the case of how sinful the sins of abortion is while also offering the power of the Gospel to forgive all sins, from the sins of compromising, fear of man, shame and even murder. The woman’s father was the one who introduced me to this documentary. That makes me appreciate what God is doing through his family and also his ministry outside the abortion mill. A few weeks ago God used them to stop a woman not to take away their baby’s life and even though there’s a language barrier God is working. I’m sharing this is to say this is not just a documentary frozen static in time; God’s still working.
I watched this prayerfully and hope that my local church congregation can be involved with ministry and evangelism outside the abortion mill. 2020 has derailed some things and focus; but I feel strongly we need to go back to evangelism and sharing the Gospel in one of the most darkest corners in the city that our church is located at. Pray for us.
Beautiful documentary film. Well shared with beautiful article.👌
Thanks have a blessed day!
🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for posting this. Here is an article on, “Why I am not an abolitionist”, by Samuel Sey:
https://slowtowrite.com/why-i-am-not-an-abolitionist-on-abortion/
I’ll read this; I heard Samuel Sey recently interviewed an abolitionist pastor, by chance did you listen to it?
No, I haven’t. Do you have a link?
Here’s the audio: https://m.youtube.com/watch?fbclid=IwAR1xEK67jTod4NifWvVl-IpXZXvy7pWpACLHKeXIsUAUueXgyK-VdbVm17k&v=Ypp-6CV5rc0&feature=youtu.be
Still need to watch it; been busy with ministry
I watched this with my wife and my mom. It really convicted my wife and my mom was just stunned saying she just didn’t know. This is coming from a lifelong pro-lifer. The documentary was well done, and I hope to use it in the future with our church.
We have a small contingent of faithful congregants who go to the mill to protest. It is our church and one other evangelical church that is regularly there. To our shame, the Catholics are the most consistent. The thing is our church is on the opposite end of town, and the other church is from another border state. There is no local evangelical presence within 15 miles of PP in a major metropolitan area.
Not only can evangelicals not get their collective act together the local churches that are fighting in the trenches in this area don’t have unity. I have a leader in our church who sits on the board at a crisis pregnancy center and is opposed to some of the methods that abolitionists use at the abortion mills. Specifically, the use of aborted babies’ images. When we had a young lady ask for support to go to OK for some training in the abolitionist movement he opposed supporting her. Even the differences inside the local church hinder advancing the end of abortion.
Wow the division of you speak of is very real. Yesterday I saw the news of Beto going out to rebuke Texas governor since Beto is anti gun. The left cheered his interruption. They never say “hey that’s extreme and the other side would be offended!” Have you notice that?? But standing outside evangelistically at the murder mills and you got Christians happy to contrast themselves with “at least I’m not one of those extreme Christians!!” It made me think about the inconsistency of it all. Thank you for sharing these stories brother, praying for you, your chruch and your area.
Satan seems to be working full time using division, discouragement and other devices when it comes to the cause of ending abortion
I look forward to watching it. Glad to hear of the focus on redemption.
I agree that abortion is murder and through the Gospel sins are forgiven.
Thanks for sharing! Ultimately, I’m an abolitionist. If a woman hired an assassin to kill her toddler, we’d expect legal consequences against her. Why not with abortion? That said, I thank God for any incremental gains, such as overturning Roe v Wade.
Your assassin analogy makes the point. I appreciate your posts over the years on the issue of abortion
I haven’t watched this (my internet is terrible out here). I googled and found freethestates.org. Brother, I do not feel called or led to minister with the spirit that is presented in that website. Why though is it always the woman who is to be jailed and condemned? (Eternity matters just affirmed my point.) Perhaps the video is not like this website. I appreciate you and your heart to end abortion. I am praying your commenters on this post will be respectful.
Sorry for delay getting back to you just had ministry one on one lunch with Caleb in our Tuesday Bible study. I do think to legally prohibit abortion it will be inevitable to have penal consequences as part of legal enforcement. I think others involved with abortion and enable it to occur also should face penal consequences also. I do think some women are coerced to abort their babies and I do think the law make distinction and due process should establish the facts as in other legal instance. How goes your day today, which I believe is your fourth day on vacation?
Thanks, brother. I look forward to watching this soon, probably early next week..
Gotcha. How are you doing today brother?
RE: today
Thanks! I normally don’t like to wander too far from the couch on Thursdays but I was pretty busy today.
How went your Thursday?
Thank you for sharing this SlimJim! Praise the Lord for these Christians, praying for the Lord to continue to give them strength to save these precious babies and share the gospel! 💜💜💜
Thank you for sharing, Pastor Jim. I have recently become acquainted with Pastor Durbin through some YouTube videos. So far I like what I’ve seen. As time allows, I will fit this documentary into my busy schedule. The abortion issue is at or near the top on my radar and has been for decades. As science has now shown, in plain view, what abortion is, even many young people can’t deny what happens during one. Years ago there was a video entitled “Silent Scream” which was one of the first videos that showed a baby being torn apart (I think via ultrasound) in the womb. The presenter was a doctor who had performed abortions and his description of what we were seeing was accurate and horrific. I gave my copy to my brother-in-law who showed it to his sister who was considering abortion. After seeing the video she changed her mind and the baby that was born is over 30 years old now.
Wow God used that video. I can’t bring myself to see that video though I know about it. I’m glad that baby is now 30 years old. Praise God for the life saved, Chris I appreciate you sharing the story
You’re welcome. I only watched it a couple of times myself. I already had a strong opinion before I saw it. Praise God, Indeed! My brother-in-law knew I had the video and when his sister told him she was going to have a abortion he immediately thought she needed to see it. And he was right.
The days that I spent working at a pregnancy crisis center changed completely once we had an ultrasound machine. There was no charge for any pregnant woman to come and see what was inside of them before deciding to terminate the child. Many children have been saved by that glimpse of their child in the womb.
Thank you.
Amen and Hallelujah this is END TIMES!!
Love ❤ Always and Shalom, YSIC \o/
