Dr. Lane Tipton is a Theologian and Apologetics Professor.
I’ve appreciated a year ago his Van Til’s Trinitarian Theology: Reformed or Revisionist? Lectures by Lane Tipton
A few days ago the Great Resource Reformed Forum shared on their Youtube channel a series by Dr. Tipton titled “Introduction to the Theology and Apologetics of Cornelius Van Til.”
Here’s the Syllabus.
These are actually part of a course that’s free one can sign up for here.
Below are the videos!
Thank you brother, I look forward to listening to these!
Aww blessings to you!
Wow! Thanks for the great resources. Adding to my watch later list on YouTube.
Blessings.
You are welcome have a blessed day!
Thanks for the videos. Since they convey truth, I am surprised that YouTube allows them to remain.
Thanks for dropping by! I suppose YT don’t know what this is; I bet if the topic was on gender and biblical morality things would be quite different and the contents being on their platforms are more at risk! Off topic, I was shocked but not surprised that Veritas Project latest video was removed by YouTube, did you hear about that?
Yes, YouTube is notorious for removing stuff of Veritas Project.
You’re not going to believe it, but this T-101 guy listened to the first video, Biography and Major Works. Van Til’s theological writings are over my head, but I would love to read a history of J. Gresham’s opposition to Princeton’s slide into modernism. I found “Defending the Faith: J. Gresham Machen and the Crisis of Conservative Protestantism in Modern America” by D.G. Hart. It’s interesting to me that Machen opposed rising modernism separately from “popularist fundamentalism” as one commentator called it.
I hear that is a good book on Machen; though I do have reservations that sometimes his anti-fundamentalism gets to excessive and lands him in weird places: https://veritasdomain.wordpress.com/2016/02/23/d-g-harts-odd-wife-post-responding-to-sexual-immorality-in-films/
Still he’s worth reading I think and I’ve enjoyed a lecture from him in the past though with the concerns that I have stated above. Machen was influential in my opinion with the rise of Van Til’s influence. Awesome you listened to the first video!!! How goes your day?
Thanks for the caution! I had to run out earlier and exchange some equipment for my CPAP machine, but other than that it’s a quiet day. How about your day?
He does chalkboard lectures just like Van Til!
Yes Van Til was famous for that especially Jis circles lol.
Maybe one day I will understand Van Til without help
Thank you.
You are welcome! How are you doing Maw Maw?
I have sinus infection. Doing ok since I went to the Dr.
The Trinity and History looks interesting. If I am not mistaken Gordon Clark criticized Van Til’s view of the Trinity because Van Til viewed God as a Person. The members of the Trinity are Persons. I’ll see what Lane Tipton has to say about this.
I think Lane Tipton has explained Van Til’s view well why its not heretical; I have tried to tackle Clark’s objections and concerns here on the blog at this post: https://veritasdomain.wordpress.com/2013/07/06/van-tillian-trinitarian-theology-its-orthodox-status-and-application-to-the-one-and-the-many/
Thank you for the reference. I will check it out.
I did watch the video. Tipton didn’t bring up the Personhood of God. I actually see it as a mistake by Van Til which can be ignored as irrelevant. What I am more interested in understanding is the relationship between the Trinity and ourselves. It has to go beyond both pantheism and platonism which I am sure it does.
