Jeff Chavez’ post in ink 5 stood out for me about circular reasoning. “Self-attesting”, “virtuous”, and “spiral circle” are descriptions of the kind of “circular reasoning” we need to follow. However, it requires an ultimate authority as part of the presuppositions (assumptions). That would be God and His Word. Those who claim there is no God, or no ultimate authority, are saying that everything is arbitrary, including their own use of circular reasoning that they must use when they accept their assumptions as true. That would be reasoning in a “vicious” circle.
Frank you hit this on the nail! Ulimately everyone’s reasoning is “circular” but the question is if it that circular (consistency) is self-defeating, arbitrary or precondition that makes sense of everything else! Frank that’s encouraging to see you read Jeff’s post! Have a blessed morning and day!
This one stuck out to me as well and Frank said this far better than I could! Blessings, brothers!
Awesome to hear that; I don’t remember does your class start today or tomorrow? Praying for it to go well!
It started yesterday. Thanks for your prayers!
Thanks for including the Bahnsen link. I am currently reading his “Presuppositional Apologetics: Stated and Defended” book.
Blessings!
Thanks for your support of Question Evolution Day and sharing that link. QED11 almost didn’t happen because I get so discouraged by professing Christians who claim to support it, but can’t be bothered to even share a creation science link with a hashtag. But then, how many professing Christians don’t read their Bibles or know basic Christian doctrines?
I pray this year’s QED12 would be a blessing; hope to schedule things on that day on social media; four more days till the day am I correct?
Yes, it’s Saturday the 12th. Minor correction, it’s the 11th annual. I just finished an article for it, and am about to do another. Thanks again!
Thanks for the presup-listing! I enjoyed the C2TC guys discussing the monomyth. Not your issue, but I cringe at the favorable references to C.S. Lewis and Catholic writers J.R. Tolkien and Flannery O’Connor.
I feel you; when it comes to discussion of large narratives and apologetics it seems Lewis gets brought up. I think without the Lewis part the CTC guys make some good points about narratives and it’s implication for talking about the issue of theodicy. By the way I am not familiar with Flannery O’Connor but I won’t be surprised that I saw his name gets brought up by apologists, like how I heard GK Chesterton gets brought up and for years I didn’t know Chesterton was Catholic until I read his work for myself. Chesterton was adamantly anti-Calvinist and explicitly deny the Gospel…I digressed. Were you able to get some better sleep last night?
Thanks for the good thoughts. Patrick is an ex-Catholic so he “should” know better. Many apologists are so focused on atheism these days that they willingly overlook RC heterodoxies. Also, being accepted as an intelligent/intellectual member of the herd these days means don’t make a stink about RC-ism.
Yes, I had a GREAT sleep last night. Thanks! I slept in until 4:45 AM. My big chores today were making two important phone calls while sitting on the couch. I now have to do some physical work and drive to the grocery to restock my ice cream supply because my wife keeps dipping into it after I go to bed. When I get home I have to continue mulling over where to hang my Byrds throw that finally arrived in the mail. Tough decision! Sorry. I just finished another rebuttal of Peter Kreeft and I’m a little giddy.
How are you doing restwise?
Ha! One of my professors quoted Chesterton in depth today on his view that “beautiful things should mean beautiful things.” My professor proceeded to read a very long paragraph and then gave a speech on his use of beautiful language and how this language is effective and causes people to change. This caused me to laugh; because we know that Chesterton does not view the gospel in the same manner that we do. This class is going to be interesting. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
It gets worse! My first writing assignment for this class is engaging with C.S. Lewis, I will absolutely say that since “C.S. Lewis is a universalist I do not find his arguments coherent.” I am prepared to fail the class over this!

Thank you for posting . Need some catching up to do reading these.
Hope you are also able to get some rest and time with the Lord dear sister!
Yes !! You are so right.
Thank you.
The one on circularity is very thought provoking. All worldviews are circular but if they are not they will have an irrational infinite regress and that too is a problem
Thanks for this Jim! Putting it on my ‘links to read’ list!
Working fast here, I changed an article I wrote on Wednesday this morning (Thursday), removing the video and inserting “The Last Word on Atheism.”
The discussion of stories got me thinking about how stories fit with apologetics
