Thanks for the blog regarding Alien: Covenant: My wife and our two sons are big fans of Sci Fi movies. Every once in awhile our oldest son invites us over to watch some dumb SciFi movie. I’d rather watch paint dry. A couple of years ago we watched Promotheus, which really disturbed me, it was so anti-biblical. Yeah, I know, it’s “just a story.” They’re now all excited about seeing Alien: Covenant. Yech. People chase after every entertainment “fix” that comes along but can’t be bothered with the Word of God. I’ll be looking to squeeze in some words about God and the Bible.
The writer of that post is Christian screen writer and director Brian Godawa and he has a higher threshold than I do of what a Christian can stomach in terms of movies. But I appreciate his analysis and the fact that he’s come out very strongly in that post to the latest Alien movie speaks volumes concerning the problem of the film and also the issues with the director Ridley Scott. I don’t watch a lot of movies since I think most of them are ungodly and unedifying and also because I don’t want it to kill my mind for the pace of reading so this wasn’t even going to be an option for me to watch. Now its going to be even more not a movie I’m going to watch. Were your sons fan of the first three Aliens movie? Alien 2 was the first movie I ever watched in theater.
My wife and I saw Alien 1 & 2 at the theater and I remember liking them a lot at the time but I don’t go for that stuff at all anymore. Like you, I’d MUCH rather read a good book. Our sons liked the first two Alien movies a lot. Horror movies and their favorite NFL teams are their big loves.
