If you love Church history and/or if you are familiar with Crossway’s Series of books on Theologians on the Christian Life you might be delighted to know that there was a conference in 2017 that covered some of the Theologians in the series.
Personally I have only read only one of the volume in this series which I have reviewed: Review: Schaeffer on the Christian Life: Countercultural Spirituality by William Edgar. I do plan to read more from this series.
Here are the videos:
Why Read Biography? – John Piper and Justin Taylor Interview
Michael Reeves: Spurgeon on the Christian Life
Sam Storms: Packer on the Christian Life
Tony Reinke: Newton on the Christian Life
Jason Meyer: Lloyd-Jones on the Christian Life
Dane Ortlund- Edwards on the Christian Life
Enjoy!
Thanks for these! I have been eyeing the book about Martyn Loyd-Jones by Jason Meyer and look forward to listening to the accompanying video this afternoon at work. I see Stephen J. Nichols edited the series and I’ll always be very cautious when it comes to his work after he presented Jesuit Francis Xavier as a hero of the faith in that children’s book.
I am rather cautious with historical oriented theology at times because we can easily make heroes out of men whose theology is flawed; that doesn’t mean I don’t like church history or appreciate the example of saints that came before us. I was also cautious in seeing Nichols. Also there’s one video I didn’t add on here from this series which I imagine with your sleuth discernment skill you will figure out which one…
RE: Also there’s one video I didn’t add
Let me guess. G.K. Chesterton or Thomas Aquinas? Just kidding! I see it was C.S. Lewis.
J.I. Packer also disappointed many with his embracing of Catholicism as prime supporter of ECT.
I just got done listening to Jason Meyer’s talk on MLJ, which I really appreciated. Man, MLJ’s example has been such a blessing to me the last four years!
I hope you don’t get the impression I’m criticizing you because of Nichol’s connection to this series. I realize that such men as Nichols and Packer can have good insights into God’s Word and its application. Unfortunately, we have to increasingly be wary of those pastors and theologians who are soft on Rome and chew the meat and spit out the ecumenical bones. Sadly, many also end up swallowing the bones.
Like Christmas morning! Thank you, brother, I can’t wait to dive into these!
Thanks sister I hope you enjoy them! Have a blessed rest of the day sister!
I watched the first one and the one on Spurgeon. It is like Christmas morning!
Thank you!
