For this Sunday here’s what you can do: Encourage a father going through a hard time with his kids.
Do you know anyone in your church who is having a hard time being a godly father to his kids? Think of a father who is exhausted. Exasperated. He might be ready to call in quits. He might not know what to do with his kids. Maybe his kids is in rebellion.
Pray before going to church for this father. Then ask him how he’s doing. Ask him how you can pray for his kids.
When it comes to what else to say I think we must keep in mind whatever we say must be done with wisdom and grace.
What can you say to such a father? I think these posts might be helpful to help “prime the pump” of things you can say with specific trials: Help! Son rejecting God because of loss, Biblical Counseling: Parenting Rebels and Apostates and Help! I’m Discouraged since I don’t see people Changing.
Sometimes it can be just letting him know that just by being there as a father it makes a lot of differences even in the early years of life, so that he doesn’t think everything he’s done is wasted: Extra-Biblical Confirmation of the Importance of Fathers in Early Years of A Child. Let’s honor fathers before next week
Amen Pastor. We just came from a wake, Tony, the brother of our dear friend died suddenly at 50 yrs old. Half the people there were family and church brethren, the other half were bikers, on the tough side.
Tony’s family had tried to share the gospel over the years but to no avail. Then a biker from a Christian club met up with him, they rode together a couple of times then went to church.
Then Tony brought his daughter to church. That was three weeks ago, now he died of heart failure.
Not sure where Tony’s spiritual life was but he seemed to change from tough rider to taking daughter to church.
So yes Pastor, let’s Encourage a Father Who’s Turning His Life Around!
Wow. Thanks for sharing this!
Lisa this story is much needed and appropriate for the post. So powerful. Is this an adult or younger Daughter? Is she still able to go to church somehow??
Tony’s children are 15 and 8. I just met them tonight. I don’t know his ex-wife. Perhaps Tony’s brother Juan and Juan’s wife Lourdes, (our close friends) may pick up the torch.
When Lourdes introduced Tony’s daughter to me she said, ” Bianca has such a heart for Jesus”. I encouraged her to find strength in God’s word at this difficult time.
Must remember to pray for her too!
Good word! Thanks, Jimmy. Lots of love to you and the fam!
Lots of you and Nate and PQ!!!! How are your studies this weekend?
Thanks for this good exhortation! People know a lot about criticism. A little encouragement goes a long way.
Amen Tom indeed encouragement goes a long way, I agree. How did your Sunday shift go?
RE: Sunday
Thanks! My orders were done Saturday so the boss asked me to help in another area. I worked way too hard! I have to slow myself down. I have a 30YO’s want-to, but a 65YO’s body.
How are you doing after the 12-hour-long drive?
So many of our fathers need extra encouragement. Prayer is a blessed place to begin.
Amen brother amen. Hope you have a blessed Monday! I am enjoying Colorado
Wonderful! May your journey continue to share many blessings.
This is so appropriate because some men are struggling with fatherhood. Will be praying 🙏
You are right! Praying too
Hallelujah and Amen ❤
